West Coast Fishermen Launch Albacore Web Site

The Western Fishboat Owners Association (WFOA) will launch a Web site this weekend dedicated to U.S.-caught Pacific albacore tuna.

The site, www.pacificalbacore.com, will feature recipes, nutritional information, a history of the Northwest albacore fishery and details of where to purchase fresh and canned albacore products.

"Sustainable seafood is a hot topic right now. People are visiting their local markets, looking for sustainably caught fish; we want to make sure they have the information they need to make the right choices," says Wayne Heikkila, WFOA director. "Wild Pacific albacore is the ultimate convenience food - it's healthy and can be used in almost any dish. People think fish is hard to cook, this Web site shows how easy it can be to incorporate wild Pacific albacore into favorite meals."

The non-profit WFOA represents about 400 albacore fishing vessels and is involved in fisheries-management issues at the state, federal and international level.
