Young’s Seafood takes manufacturing award

UK leading fisb and seafood supplier Young’s Seafood took top honors this year at the annual Food Manufacturing Excellence Awards in London this week, accepting the award for protein manufacturing company of the year.

The award recognized, among other accomplishments, Young’s efforts to meet government guidelines of eating fish twice a week. Initiatives in this direction included the introduction of a range of fish products featuring celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.

“Young’s Seafood Limited recognises the healthy benefits of fish and is keen to do all it can to get consumers eating it as part of a healthy, balanced diet,” said Young’s COO Pete Ward.

The award also acknowledged Young’s efforts to consolidate its corporate footprint, including transferring volume between more than five manufacturing sites in the UK, and 183 products between sites.

“We’ve had to make some tough choices about our manufacturing operations in the new reality of the macroeconomic environment and to achieve our long term objectives,” Ward said. “Our staff at all of our sites have been excellent and continued to produce great products meeting and exceeding customer expectations. This award is a credit to them.”

The awards, now in their 12th year, recognize companies in the food and drink manufacturing industry. They are judged by a panel of independent experts, chaired by Paul Wilkinson, all with years of wide-ranging experience in every area of the food industry.
