AquaChile salmon farm in Magallanes region gains ASC certification

AquaChile announced on 12 April that one of its salmon farms located in the Magallanes region of Chile has obtained Aquaculture Stewardship Council certification, a first for an AquaChile farm in the region.

The farm, located in the Brazo de Guardramiro zone in the jurisdiction of Natales in the Magallanes, is the first AquaChile-owned farm in the region to obtain ASC certification, according to a release. With the certification of the Brazo de Guardramiro farm, 45 AquaChile farms are now ASC-certified.

"This certification reflects our company's commitment to sustainability in the long term and is the result of teamwork in different areas of AquaChile,” José Manuel Schwerter, production manager of AquaChile, said.  “I want to highlight in particular the dedication of the entire team of Magallanes, who worked hard for this.”

According to AquaChile, the effort to obtain the certification for the facility – which raises Atlantic salmon – took roughly three months.
