ASMI names Jeremy Woodrow interim executive director

The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute has named its communications program director, Jeremy Woodrow, as its interim executive director.

ASMI is a public-private partnership between the state of Alaska and the Alaska seafood industry, created to market Alaska seafood globally.

Alexa Tonkovich, who had served as ASMI’s executive director since 2015, announced her resignation on 11 November

The ASMI board chose Woodrow at a meeting on Monday, 19 November. Woodrow has served as ASMI’s communications director since January 2017. Raised in Juneau in a commercial fishing family, Woodrow first worked with ASMI as a communications program intern, then as a staff member of the PR agency Schiedermayer and Associates Alaska, which contracted with ASMI, according to National Fisherman. Woodrow also worked for the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities as its communications officer.

“After a robust deliberative process, the ASMI board selected Jeremy Woodrow to be the interim director working collaboratively with program directors to move ASMI toward the selection of a permanent director,” ASMI Board Member Duncan Fields said. “The board is pleased with Jeremy’s priorities and vision to work with all ASMI members to forge our future,” said board member Duncan Fields of Kodiak, Alaska.

The ASMI board is working on submitting a request for proposals for a permanent executive director, Fields said.

“The board met this morning, and they wanted to know that they had staff in place to continue forward with the ASMI mission,” Woodrow told National Fisherman at Pacific Marine Expo in Seattle, Washington on 19 November. “We have a great staff. It’s not going to be a one-person job. It’s a group effort.”
