FCC launches new career development program for sector

The Fisheries Council of Canada announced on 14 January that it would be launching a partnership with the National Fisheries Institute (NFI) to help develop emerging leaders in the Canadian seafood industry.

According to an FCC press release, the program will aim to help develop the leaders through “networking, programming and unique experiences along the supply chain.”

The program plans to address the areas of government relations, production, sales marketing, and the seafood community as a whole. Students will tour facilities and interact with audiences that affect business decisions in the industry.

“Our friends at the National Fisheries Institute have run their program for over 20 years with great success. The gap NFI filled in US fish and seafood sector exists in Canada. The time is right to launch a similar program here.” FCC President Paul Lansbergen said. “I appreciate the support of and collaboration with NFI. We look forward to working with them on this important program.”

The program will include travel as well, with trips planned to Ottawa, ON, Chicago, IL and St. Andrew, NB. Three days will be spent in each of the cities touring points of interest such as embassies, ports, distributors, retailers, restaurants and storage facilities.

“I invite all senior executives throughout our sector supply chain to take this opportunity to invest in your future leaders in this career development program specifically made for our sector,” Lansbergen said. “For program participants, be prepared for a challenging and rewarding experience.”

Applications for the program are currently open and will close at the end of March. Students will graduate from the program in October of this year. More information about the program can be found on the FCC website.
