Mazzetta Co.'s Jordan Mazzetta leaves family business to start his own seafood venture

Jordan Mazzetta, an executive vice president at Highland Park, Illinois, U.S.A.-based Mazzetta Co. and the son of founder and CEO Tom Mazzetta, has announced he is leaving the company to start his own seafood-related business.

In an email to SeafoodSource, Jordan Mazzetta said the decision to leave was his “personal choice.”

“What I can say is that Mazzetta Company asked me to stay on through January, which I did,” he said. “I am no longer involved in Mazzetta Company, but I hope to maintain the great friendships forever." 

Mazzetta said for his next job, he will be staying in the seafood sector.

“I have omega 3’s coursing through my veins,” he said. “ I am very excited for the future and ultimately it may include acquisitions, developments (particularly in aquaculture), and/or C-level position.”

On LinkedIn, Mazzetta is listed as the owner and developer of Highwood Harbor LLC, with a start date of February 2019. The firm’s mission, as listed on LinkedIn, is “to develop, lead, and partner in seafood and aquaculture (RAS) companies/investments.”

An announcement from Tom Mazzetta confirmed Jordan Mazzetta’s departure. 

“Jordan has been a big part of our successes over the past decade,” the elder Mazzetta said. “I appreciate his desire to stake his own claim much in the way I built Mazzetta Company more than 30 years ago. As his father, I’m proud of the person he is. As CEO of Mazzetta Company, I’m excited for the opportunity in front of him and wish him every success.”

The company confirmed Jordan Mazzetta will retain a minority interest in the parent company of Mazzetta Co.

“While no longer active in daily activities of Mazzetta Company, LLC, Jordan, along with his brother Zachary Mazzetta, will remain minority shareholders of Jorzac Corp, the parent company of Mazzetta Company,” the company said. “As he moves into his new venture, Jordan continues to support Mazzetta Company in order to assure a smooth transition.”

In the same announcement, Mazzetta Co. announced the promotion of Bennett Goldberg to vice president of sales and Joe Chekouras to vice president of operations. The company also announced Chris DiGiovanni has rejoined the company as director of marketing, with responsibility over packaging, brand awareness, and project management.

“Bennett, Joe, and Chris, along with our entire team are committed to the company, our customers, and our suppliers. Together, we are in excellent position for future growth and leadership in the seafood industry,” Tom Mazzetta said.
