Steven Rafferty named managing director of Cermaq Chile

Steven Rafferty, a former managing director and CEO of Skretting, has been appointed managing director of Cermaq Chile, effective 1 June, 2019.

Rafferty, who also previously served as chief financial officer and chief operating officer of Cermaq from 2008 to 2010, will be based out of Puerto Montt, Chile.

“I very much look forward to lead Cermaq’s operations in Chile. Cermaq has changed significantly since I left in 2010 and I am delighted and excited to lead the Chilean operations and be part of the global management that will take the company into its next phase,” Rafferty said. “Today, the company is more advanced and with a much stronger profile and market presence, which was most recently seen in the launch of True Arctic Salmon. I look forward to be a part of the team and build our organization and operations in Chile.”

Oslo, Norway-headquartered Cermaq, which is a fully-owned subsidiary of the Mitsubishi Corporation, unveiled its new brand platform True Arctic Salmon earlier this month. The brand touts the benefits of fish raised north of the Arctic Circle. Cermaq’s Chile division is the second-largest aquaculture company in Chile.

Most recently, Rafferty was aquaculture director at Global Maritime AS. Besides his time at Skretting and his previous stint at Cermaq, he also worked as CFO of Morpol and in finance positions at Marine Harvest. As part of his previous experience, he lived and worked in Chile for six years.

Cermaq CEO Geir Molvik said Rafferty’s extensive global industry experience will be a benefit to the company.

“He is definitely the right person for this task, bringing with him broad knowledge from the industry and is business-savvy,” Molvik said. “He also knows Chilean culture and business well, which is important for building our operations in Chile.”
