A Chinese online seafood B2B platform with offices in China and Spain is claiming stunning growth thanks to a healthy demand in Spain for Chinese squid.
In a note to media and investors, Huacaizhaoyu.com claims it will do CNY 5 billion (USD 776.5 million, EUR 669.2 million) worth of business in 2018, up from CNY 3.5 billion (USD 543.5 million, EUR 468.5 million) in 2017 and CNY 2 billion (USD 310.6 million, EUR 267.7 million) in 2016. The company’s office in Barcelona is selling 30 to 40 containers of squid per month, according to the company.
Other company key products are saury, ribbonfish (hairtail) and "crocodile icefish.” Huacai has offices in Zhoushan, the fishing port where much of China’s overseas catch is unloaded. It also has an agency in Hong Kong. The firm claims 13,000 registered users conduct business on the site.
