Prices for Norway’s farmed Atlantic salmon remained very high throughout June, with fresh prices averaging around NOK 67 (USD 8.05, EUR 7.23) per kg. However, prices have started to fall slightly in line with greater supplies.
Nevertheless, analysts forecast the future prices of 3 to 6 kg fish will continue to be high, averaging around NOK 63.50 (USD 7.63, EUR 6.85) per kg in July, NOK 58 (USD 6.97, EUR 6.26) in August and NOK 55.50 (USD 6.67, EUR 5.99) in September.
The average FOB price for fresh salmon so far in 2016 is NOK 58.36 (USD 7.01, EUR 6.30) per kg, up 41 percent year-on-year.
The average price of frozen salmon exports in June was NOK 58.89 (USD 7.08, EUR 6.36) per kg, up 41 percent compared with the same period of 2015. For the year to date, the average price of this product was NOK 52.42 (USD 6.30, EUR 5.66) per kg, up 18 percent year-on-year.
According to Norwegian Statistics, the country had exported 355,685 metric tons (MT) of fresh salmon and 7,653 MT of frozen salmon by the third week of June, representing year-on-year decreases of 8 percent and 35 percent, respectively.
In the first five months of this year, Norway’s salmon exports totaled NOK 23 billion (USD 2.8 billion, EUR 2.5 billion), an increase of 28 percent or NOK 5 billion (USD 600.8 million, EUR 539.7 million) year-on-year. Poland and France have continued to be the main buyers of Norwegian salmon this year.
Norway’s total harvest is expected to drop by around 100,000 MT this year to 1.1 million MT.
