Norway exported 151 metric tons (MT) of king crab worth NOK 44 million (USD 5.4 million, EUR 4.6 million) to overseas markets last month, with the volume decreasing by 75 MT and the value declining by 20 percent or NOK 11 million (USD 1.3 million, EUR 1.2 million) compared with October 2016.
Overall, according to new figures published by the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC), the Scandinavian country shipped 1,600 MT of shellfish with a value of NOK 146 million (USD 17.9 million, EUR 15.4 million), with the volume up by 25 percent or 315 MT, while the export value represented an increase of 7 percent or NOK 9 million (USD 1.1 million, EUR 950,206).
NSC previously reported that for the first nine months of this year, Norway exported 38,000 MT of shellfish with a value of NOK 1.3 billion (USD 159 million, EUR 137.3 million), representing reductions of five percent and 11 percent, respectively. These third-quarter totals included 1,400 MT of king crab worth NOK 385 million (USD 47.1 million, EUR 40.7 million), down 17 percent and five percent, respectively.
