Lobster
Since the shellfish is viewed by many as a “treat” for special occasions, it is one of the most frequently featured seafood species for Valentine’s Day. Surf-and-turf specials, especially, are featured, such as the 1-pound lobster tail with Filet Oscar special at Devon Seafood + Steak in Chicago. Even grocery chains are on board with the lobster craze. Schenectady, N.Y.-based Price Chopper, for example is featuring a filet mignon and rock lobster tail special. “Lobster is considered a luxury item, as is the filet mignon. They want to treat their significant other to a meal they wouldn’t normally serve,” said Anthony Snow, director of seafood merchandising for Price Chopper.
