10 potential game-changers in China’s seafood scene in 2018

It will be interesting to see if China’s planned unfair trading act (which should be rubber-stamped at March’s National People’s Congress) can do anything to quash the waves of ecological claims made in seafood marketing. The new law will punish food distributors making untrue claims for their products.  It seems that every seafood product in Chinese supermarkets is fresh, safe, ecological, and pure, with many products listing the claim they’re sourced “from deep wild waters.”

China has encouraged this practice through the various state-sponsored marketing schemes, like the Agriculture Ministry’s “Green Food” mark, which merely signifies “low levels of chemicals” used in production. This muddies the water for bona fide producers of actual high-quality seafood.
