AKVA, Mainstream Canada sign deal

AKVA Group announced on Monday that it signed a contract with Mainstream Canada to deliver to the Cermaq subsidiary a UNI recirculation hatchery capable of producing 1.2 million Atlantic salmon smolt annually.

The system is the first of its kind in Canada and is scheduled to open in February 2010.

In late June, AKVA sold a UNI recirculation hatchery capable of producing 8 to 10 million Atlantic salmon smolt annually to Norway’s Sundsfjord Smolt.

“As a turn-key supplier to both land-based and cage aquaculture operations, farming companies are able to focus on their production, while we ensure excellent system compatibility and integration from design to start-up,” said Trond Severinsen, AKVA’s chief marketing officer.

“Designing the optimal recirculation system is challenging. Nevertheless, we are able to guarantee that all water parameters are exactly as specified through never allowing any shortcuts in the design,” he added. “This contract is yet another testimony that our customers recognize our state-of-the-art technology and that AKVA group now has true turn-key capabilities.”

The aquaculture technology company is based in Bryne, Norway.
