The Guayaquil, Ecuador-based Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) has welcomed Adisseo, BIOLAN, and Cargill as the newest members of its strategic alliance of companies that share a mission to transform aquaculture through responsible, sustainable, and transparent practices.
"Real change in the aquaculture industry can only happen when every actor in the value chain comes together," SSP director Pamela Nath said. "From producers to suppliers, it’s essential to embrace sustainability at every stage to ensure long-term impact. The involvement of leading companies like Adisseo, BIOLAN, and Cargill brings us closer to achieving that vision.”
Adisseo and Cargill are both aquafeed producers, while BIOLAN is a producer of biosensors, which help producers track food quality and safety. Adisseo specializes in animal feed additives, while feed production giant Cargill provides a range of food and ingredients to the aquaculture industry.
Launched at Seafood Expo North America in March 2018, the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership brings together Ecuadorian shrimp producers in an attempt to improve the country’s reputation for safe and sustainable shrimp production. Its founding members were Grupo Almar, Bruop Camaronero Champmar, Corporación Lanec, Omarsa, Promarisco, and Songa, but it has since expanded to include producers and suppliers at all stages of the shrimp production chain.
"By joining SSP, Adisseo strengthens its leadership in sustainable shrimp production, driving collaborative innovation and sharing best practices with industry peers," Adisseo Innovation Project Manager Lucas Assis said. "This partnership provides access to valuable insights and resources, enhances networking opportunities, and underscores Adisseo’s commitment to advancing sustainability in the strategically important LATAM region."
Cargill Aqua Nutrition Group Sustainability Lead Dave Robb emphasized Cargill’s shared vision with SSP.
“Sustainability is at the core of everything we do at Cargill," he said. "Partnerships like this strengthen our ability to reshape the shrimp industry at scale, fostering transparency, improving environmental practices, and collaborating as an industry to set new standards for responsible production.”
“BIOLAN decided to join SSP because it shares SSP’s mission of transforming shrimp aquaculture into a clean, sustainable, and successful practice for the world," CEO Asier Albizu said. "BIOLAN’s goal is to work closely with the sector to create robust synergies that facilitate continuous improvement, focusing on traceability, sustainability, and digitalization in production processes to position Ecuadorian aquaculture internationally as a sustainable and renowned industry.”
