Morpol snaps up more Shetland salmon sites

Meridian Salmon Group subsidiary Lakeland Unst Ltd. on Wednesday agreed to acquire the assets of Uyeasound Salmon Co., a salmon farm located on the island of Unst, in northeast Shetland. The deal is valued at GBP 3 million.

The operation has five sites, selling an average 1,000 metric tons (gutted weight) of salmon annually. The sites are located adjacent to Meridian’s existing operation at Unst, which is one of the company’s best-performing areas, both operationally and financially.

Meridian is a subsidiary of Poland-based salmon-processing giant Morpol ASA.

“We are very pleased to have finally managed to secure this operation. Unst on Shetland is a very attractive area to operate in, with good staff and very little sea lice. The combined business should improve our performance going forward,” said Pål Angell-Hansen, global head of farming for Morpol.
