ProChaete unveils non-fishmeal feed

UK-based fish feed company ProChaete has announced a new feed designed to replace traditional fishmeal in aquaculture.

The feed, according to ProChaete, is plant-based with protein from polychaete worms.

“One of the driving forces behind our business is the desire to help relieve pressure on wild capture fisheries as a source of marine protein in feed,” the company said in a statement.

The feed, officially launched under the Fish Meal Replacer brand, is a powder that can be used by itself or as an ingredient in mixed feed. The company said fish eating the product grow larger than the fish eating traditional fishmeal. The feed is usable with a number of species, including shrimp.
