Skuna Bay gets entire chain BAP-certified

Canadian fish farmer Skuna Bay Salmon has earned the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA)'s Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification for its feed provider.

Skuna Bay, based in Gold River, British Columbia, announced this week that EWOS Canada, Skuna Bay's exclusive feed provider, received the certification from the GAA.

"We are proud to say that now we have all of our fish BAP certified from feed operations to sea farms and then through to inspection, selection, preparation and packing," said Dave Mergle, director of Skuna Bay.

EWOS got the certification after working with Skuna Bay to meet a number of objectives, including achieving a "fish in fish out" ratio of almost 1:1, sourcing feeder fish from certified sustainable fisheries and procuring locally.

"Skuna Bay's commitment to certify all their salmon farms to the prestigious BAP standards and now extending it to EWOS Canada, their main feed supplier partner, demonstrates their leadership in responsible aquaculture and assures the confidence of the marketplace," said GAA President George Chamberlain.
