Tropical Aquaculture attains BAP certification

Tropical Aquaculture Products of Rutland, Vt., on Monday announced that its two largest processing plants in Ecuador have received Best Aquaculture Practices certification.

The plants, Aquamar and Produmar, have a combined weekly exporting capacity of 500,000 pounds of fresh and frozen tilapia fillets.

“As the aquaculture industry advances, retailers, consumers and producers are searching for common standards on food safety, social responsibility and environmental sustainability,” said John Schramm, president and CEO of Tropical Aquaculture. “We selected BAP certification because it is a comprehensive program that addresses these issues.”

Tropical’s other processing and farm facilities are located in Colombia and Brazil. The company produces more than 20 million pounds of fresh tilapia annually.
