2 Sisters chief quits for role in parent company

After 25 years running the U.K. food manufacturer 2 Sisters Food Group, Ranjit Singh Boparan, co-founder, owner, and CEO, is to leave the post to assume the position of President of Boparan Holdings Limited (BHL), the parent company of 2 Sisters.

Taking up the new role, Boparan said that he was fully committed to building a better, more transparent business, modernizing the company, and simplifying its operations.

“I want to take a broader industry leadership role and concentrate more on the issues and challenges that affect not only our business, but also the food sector in general such as Brexit, social responsibility, and sustainability,” he said.

“Ranjit has spent 25 years of his life building a world-class food business. He has been a catalyst for change within the food industry, by challenging the norm and providing our customers and consumers with great service, great quality food and great prices," BHL Chairman Charles Allen said. "In his new role, he will be playing to his strengths, looking at new opportunities, and reducing debt that will help take the business to new levels of success.”

A process has been put in place to find a new CEO for 2 Sisters. Current COO Martyn Fletcher has been made responsible for the operations of the business until a formal appointment has been made.

“These changes are the right ones to make at a very important stage in our business’s history and they help secure strong foundations for future development and growth. These are further major transformative steps in a journey to build a better business with a world-class leadership team,” Boparan said.

Last year, the company, which is one of the largest chicken suppliers in the United Kingdom, was at the center of a scandal after undercover journalists exposed hygiene failings at one of its plants. Consequently, Boparan was called to give evidence in front of a government committee and the plant was closed for more than a month.

At the start of the year, 2 Sisters sold the frozen pizza businesses within its Green Isle Foods division to Nomad Foods for GBP 200 million (USD 274.9 million, EUR 225.5 million).

2 Sisters also owns Irish frozen fish supplier Donegal Catch.
