To keep up to date with the latest personnel changes across the seafood industry, SeafoodSource is compiling a regular round-up of hiring announcements and other personnel-related shifts worldwide. If you have an announcement, please send it to [email protected].

– Grieg Seafood Founder Per Grieg Jr. has announced that he will step down from his role on the company’s board.

The Bergen, Norway-headquartered fish-farming firm, which produces salmon and trout out of farms in Rogaland and Finnmark, Norway, and British Columbia and Shetland, Canada, was founded by Grieg in 1992.

Only a few months ago, former CEO Andres Kvame announced his resignation after 10 years in the role, while Nina Willumsen Grieg, Per’s daughter, assumed the position of interim CEO. At the time, Per Grieg said he would step down from his role as chairman of the board and assume a regular board position. Those announcements came only a month after Greig announced that it was scaling back its North American operations in Canada.

Now, Per Grieg says that he will resign from the board entirely on 4 June after the company’s annual meeting.

In a release about the news, Per said it had “been a true privilege to develop and lead Grieg seafood throughout these years."

"I am proud to have played a role in developing Norway’s second-largest export industry from local communities along the coast," he said. “Now, it is time to pass the baton to a new generation. I will be rooting for Grieg Seafood and the salmon-farming industry from the sidelines.”

– Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Premier John Hogan has named Lisa Dempster to the role of fisheries minister in the province.

Hogan recently won leadership of the Liberal Party of the province, which is home to the world’s largest snow crab fishery, as well as several other lucrative fisheries.

Dempster is a veteran of the province’s tourism industry and has served in the House of Assembly in her home district of Cartwright-L’Anse au Clair since 2015.

In a release about the news, the Fish, Food, and Allied Workers Union (FFAW) praised the tenure of Dempster's predecessor Gerry Byrne, saying that his “commitment to advancing Newfoundland and Labrador’s fishing industry, from supporting harvesters’ access to competitive markets to navigating complex challenges like U.S. tariff threats, has been invaluable.”

The union also said that it looked forward to partnering with Dempster, who it said has a “track record of standing up for workers.”
