- Pure Salmon Technology, a member of the Pure Salmon Group, has appointed Synnøve Helland as its commercial director.

Helland holds a Ph.D. in fish physiology and brings 25 years of experience in the aquaculture industry to the new role. Prior to her new role as commercial director, Helland served as the company’s chief quality officer responsible for quality; sustainability; health, safety, and environment; document control; and internal training.

She’ll officially take over the role on 1 June.

“I know what it means to produce fish,” Helland said. “I’ve stood at the edge of the tank, worked to improve animal welfare, and witnessed the consequences when technology and biology don’t work together. Developing solutions that truly make a difference for the customer and the fish is what drives me.”

In the new role, Helland will be responsible for marketing and communication, tender work, and sales at the company.

“I look forward to working alongside our highly skilled teams and sharing their expertise in designing, building, and commissioning the large and complex infrastructure projects that land-based facilities have become today,” Helland said.

- Great Northern Salmon has appointed Mick Watts as the company’s head of construction for its planned recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) in Millinocket, Maine, U.S.A.

The company said Watts will be in charge of planning and executing the construction of the planned 7,500-metric-ton Atlantic salmon RAS. Prior to the role, Watts oversaw construction projects in the livestock, seafood, grain, and feed industries and most recently joins Great Northern Salmon from Pacifico in Mexico.

Watts had a lengthy tenure as a group engineer/project director for Mowi, worked maintenance and project engineering with Australian agribusiness Manildra Group Australia, and held multiple roles at Continental Grain.

“Mick has already spent time with our team and vendors in Maine. His good fit with the experienced GNS team and good amount of experience from the industry, also previously in Maine, make us confident that he will be a great asset in Great Northern Salmon,” Great Northern Salmon CEO Marianne Naess said in a release. “We look forward to bringing Mick on board full-time in Millinocket next month.”
