CP Vietnam, a subsidiary of Thailand's Charoen Pokphand Group, opened a VND 1.7 trillion (USD 66.1 million, EUR 57.3 million) aquafeed facility in Vietnam's Ca Mau province in early August, aiming to expand its regional supply footprint.
The 18-hectare Ca Mau Aqua Feedmill has a designed annual capacity of 124,800 metric tons (MT), bringing CP Vietnam's total aquafeed production capacity in the country to more than 650,000 MT per year across four operating plants, according to the firm.
The facility, located in the Khanh An Industrial Park, will manufacture six of the company's shrimp feed lines for local farmers across the Mekong Delta, which is Vietnam's primary seafood production region. These feed lines undergo strict quality control covering nutritional content, sinking performance, water stability, moisture levels, pellet size, and dust ratio, helping boost shrimp immunity and support robust, healthy growth, CP Vietnam said.
The company added that the site will shorten transportation distances to nearby farming areas, cutting logistics costs and improving feed delivery response times.
"The plant will contribute to securing high-quality feed supply for Ca Mau, lowering costs for the local shrimp sector while generating employment, boosting incomes, and promoting processing and supporting industries to foster provincial growth in the coming period," Ca Mau Vice Chairman Le Van Su said during the opening ceremony of the plant.
CP Vietnam Executive Vice President Boonlap Watcharawanitchakul further explained the company plans to pair output from the new plant with technical assistance and training programs for regional aquaculture producers.
CP Vietnam operates eight livestock and poultry feedmills along with four meat processing plants across the Southeast Asian nation. The company has two seafood processing plants in Vietnam, exporting more than 20,000 MT of processed seafood annually to several markets including Australia, Japan, China and Europe.
The aquafeed plant expansion comes as processed output of seafood companies in Ca Mau province is on the rise, producing 594,851 MT of shrimp in 2025, which was up 5.2 percent year over year, according to data from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
Earlier this year, Vietnam’s top shrimp company, Minh Phu Seafood, also opened a new shrimp processing plant in the Khanh An Industrial Park. The 35,000-MT facility is equipped with modern processing lines to produce high-value export products such as breaded, tempura, and sushi shrimp.
