Cyprus fish farmer gets FOS nod

Cyprus fish farming company Kimagro has received Friend of the Sea certification for its “Levantina Fish” seabass and seabream, the nonprofit group said in a statement.

The company, according to Friend of the Sea, monitors fish feeding habits, and does not use hormones, antibiotics, GMOs or land animal proteins. The company also cleans its nets regularly with water jets, and do not need antifouling paints. Monitoring studies showed that there no traces of farm activity at a distance of 100 meters from the cages.

"We are particularly fond of the Friend of the Sea certification, as it allows us to independently confirm our full engagement to sustainability at an international level," said Tony Kimonides, Kimagro’s founder and managing director.
