Fish oil producer receives FOS certification

Fish-oil producer GC Rieber Oils on Wednesday announced it received Friend of the Sea sustainability certification.

Raw material for the company’s fish oil products, including cod liver oil, originate from an FOS-approved Moroccan fishery that harvests sardines and mackerel using selective purse-seine gear and Moroccan supplier Sovapec & Maromega.

All GC Rieber fish oils are free of genetically modified organisms, and the company has been audited for social accountability. With production facilities in Kristiansund, Norway, the company sells its products to animal-feed and health-food manufactures and the chemicals industry.

“Independent sustainability certification is requested by our customers all over the world,” said GC Rieber CEO Arne Alnaes. “Friend of the Sea has distinguished as leading fishmeal and fish oil certification scheme with a clear mission and stringent requirements.”
