GAA seeks BAP committee nominations

The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) yesterday announced it is accepting nominations for members to serve on its Best Aquaculture Practices Salmon Farm Technical Committee.

John Forster has been appointed chairman of the 12-member committee, which will draft facility certification standards for salmon farms. The draft will be forwarded to the Standards Oversight Committee for approval.

"We seek to build a strong and balanced committee whose standards will represent the best of today's technology," said Forster. "Standards development is vitally important, not just for seafood producers, but for the retailers and consumers who are seeking assurance that aquaculture products are wholesome and responsibly produced."

GAA is seeking nominees with technical expertise in salmon aquaculture and/or experience with current environmental and social issues that relate to worldwide salmon farming. Members serve a three-year term and may be reappointed.

To submit a nomination, e-mail Forster at [email protected].
