Nova Scotia importer, distributor can now supply sustainable wild Atlantic halibut to the US

Binnacle Seafood International has secured Chain of Custody Certification from the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), allowing the global importer and distributor the ability to sell sustainably sourced wild Atlantic halibut from Nova Scotia to its customers across the United States.

Obtaining the certification required Binnacle to undergo an audit by an independent, third-party certifier, who confirmed that the company had the proper techniques and procedures in place to meet Chain of Custody protocols. The auditor explored Binnacle's supply chain, how the company tracks each purchase and how the company identifies, segregates and maintains certified inventory.

“We understand how important the MSC certification is to our suppliers and our customers who purchase our seafood,” said Nevin Harrington, owner and general manager of Binnacle. “We have worked diligently to become MSC certified and we are thrilled to receive this globally recognized designation.”

Among some of Binnacle’s top products are:

  • Atlantic and Pacific halibut – Binnacle also offers farmed Atlantic halibut during the winter season as well as a premium frozen-at-sea Atlantic halibut.
  • Atlantic salmon – Binnacle offers its customers farmed Atlantic salmon from Canada, Europe and Chile.
  • Pacific salmon – Binnacle offers its customers a variety of wild salmon that includes chinook or king, sockeye  and coho
  • Organic farmed king salmon, Arctic char, steelhead trout, and North Atlantic cod – Binnacle offers these products in a variety of ways during the year as fresh and frozen products.

The company is headquartered in Halifax region of Nova Scotia. The company has been importing and sourcing an array of seafood from around the world since 2014.
