Ocean Wise partners with first Chinese restaurant

Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise conservation program is partnering with its first Chinese restaurant to feature sustainable seafood as part of its offerings.

On 28 November, the aquarium will partner with Szechuan Chongqing Seafood Restaurant, at 1668 West Broadway, where Chef Robert Wong will give a demonstration on preparing authentic Szechuan dishes featuring Ocean Wise seafood, the aquarium said in a release.

The Ocean Wise symbol next to a seafood item is the Vancouver Aquarium’s assurance of an ocean-friendly seafood choice.

The Szechuan Chongqing restaurant, for example, will not serve shark-fin soup — a popular dish for special Chinese occasions — but will instead offer “sans-fin” soup.

With over 3,100 partner locations across Canada, Ocean Wise works with restaurants, markets, food services and suppliers to ensure that they have the best scientific information regarding sustainable seafood so they make appropriate buying decisions.
