More than 600 fishermen in Wales are now being represented by one association, fighting for their rights as well as working towards a sustainable future.
The Welsh Fishermen’s Association (WFA) represents six associations across Wales — North Wales Fishermen’s Co-operative, Lln Fisherman’s Association, Llyn Pot Fishermen’s Association, Cardigan Bay Fisherman’s Association Ltd, South and West Wales Fishing Communities Ltd and Welsh Inshore Scallop Association.
One of the fishermen’s biggest successes was campaigning against plans to establish Marine Conservation Zones around Wales including from St Tudwals to Pwllheli, Bardsey Island, the north of the Lln peninsula, the mouth of the Dwyfor and the north-eastern end of the Menai Strait.
