Bumble Bee recalls canned tuna

Bumble Bee Foods has issued a voluntary recall on specific codes of its 5-ounce chunk white Albacore and chunk light tuna products, over a problem with loose seals on the cans.

“The recall has been issued because the products do not meet the company's standards for seal tightness,” the company said in a statement accompanying the recall notice.

The notice includes various specific codes of five-ounce chunk light tuna in water, under the Brunswick and Bumble Bee brands, and Bumble Bee five-ounce chunk light tuna in oil, chunk light tuna in water, and chunk white Albacore in water. The products were distributed for retail sale nationwide between 17 January 17 2013 and 28 February 2013.

"There have been no consumer reports of illnesses attributed to these products, but because we've identified an issue with seal tightness, we're voluntarily recalling products to ensure the highest margin of safety and quality,” said Steve Mavity, Bumble Bee’s senior VP of technical services and corporate quality assurance.
