Cozy Harbor Seafood, a Portland, Maine-based lobster, shrimp and finfish processor, has achieved British Retail Consortium (BRC) Level A re-certification for its food-safety and quality-management program.
It said it is the only lobster processor in the United States to receive BRC Grade A certification.
A long-time exporter to Europe, Cozy Harbor said it implemented its program to meet the stringent food-safety requirements of that market. The company is a participant in the Global Food Safety Initiative.
While not a requirement in the United States, BRC certification exceeds HAACP (hazard analysis and critical control points) standards and incorporates a full suite of good manufacturing practices and pre-requisite programs.
Cozy Harbor is exhibiting at the upcoming International Boston Seafood Show (booth No. 2453).
