UK fish feed auditor opens China office

UK-based Food and Agriculture Consultancy Services Ltd. (FACS) has launched a new service for global animal-feed and feed-additive companies in China, according to China's Ministry of Agriculture.

FACS said its service will help alleviate recent scares with melamine- and dioxin-tainted seafood feed in Chinese seafood exports, along with the lack of transparency of local food-inspection agencies.

The company's office in Beijing will provide second-party audit services for fish feed companies worldwide looking to source raw materials, feed additives and medications from China.

FACS will offer local audits to foreign seafood importers that seek Chinese companies with the highest levels of food safety and traceability.

While some foreign seafood companies have come to rely on certificates of analysis and quality-system certificates for risk-assessment needs, FACS said Chinese operations may require heightened measures of inspection, such as hiring local auditors.
