A 5 January tractor-trailer accident in Trøndelag, Norway, left 19 tons of salmon, reportedly from Norwegian Seafood, blocking a local highway.

The news was reported by local publication Namdalsavisa, as well as ILaks and Vegvesen.

Additionally, the Norwegian Public Roads Authority said on X that a truck was blocking the route between Foldereid and Kongsmoen and that approximately “19 tons of fish [were] lying in the roadway.”

An anonymous local tipster told Namdalsavisa that the driver lost control on a curve, losing significant cargo in the process.

According to the paper, a local police representative said that the accident was not suspected to be related to drunk driving. Vegvesen reported that the driver was uninjured in the crash but that the event caused a significant traffic jam.

According to updates by the Norwegian Public Roads Authority, the accident blocked the roadway for at least three hours on the evening of 5 January before being cleared.

Norwegian Seafood was formed in 2023 when Visscher Seafood acquired the export business of Norway Royal Salmon (NRS), after that company merged with SalMar. The company owns a number of businesses, including Scotland’s Organic Sea Harvest, which farms, processes, and distributes 50,000 tons of salmon yearly. It has operational headquarters in Norway, the United States, and Singapore and is a subsidiary of Brouwer Food Group.
