Like Domino’s, Buffalo Wings & Rings and many other chains are featuring dishes using farmed shrimp this Lent because it is more affordable than a year or so ago. “Shrimp price is down 15 or 20 percent compared to a year and a half ago,” said Tony Lombardi, owner of Lombardi’s Seafood, a wholesaler and retailer in Orlando, Fla. In early January, Lombardi’s cost for 21/25s farmed shrimp from Central America was USD 4.40 (EUR 3.95) to USD 4.75 (EUR 4.27) per pound, versus US 6 (EUR 5.39) or more per pound a year-and-a-half ago.
