Most people focus on the main dishes and side dishes for Thanksgiving, and don’t consider hors d’ oeuvres, Seaver said. One of the easiest – and most delicious – appetizers for Thanksgiving is simply oysters that are grilled or put under the broiler. 

They can be made “Oysters Rockefeller” style or using Seaver’s recipe: mash butter with anchovies or almonds, along with herbs such as tarragon. Top the oysters with the butter mix and place them under the broiler or on the grill. 

“It’s a dish that can be prepped way ahead of time – even on the grill – or you can make it in the toaster oven if the turkey is in the oven,” Seaver said. “It’s a really sexy, generous way to welcome people without added stress.”
