Milan, Italy-based food ingredient company Fratelli Pagani is undergoing expansion through the opening of a new branch in Spain and the construction of new headquarters.

Both initiatives are part of a push from the company to move closer to its customers, establish a greater foothold in Europe, and maintain “a balance between tradition and innovation.”

“The company is proactive in identifying valuable growth opportunities and has recently launched two new expansion projects nationally and internationally,” Fratelli Pagani International Business Developer Valentina Cardazzi told SeafoodSource.

Fratelli Pagani was founded in 1909 and boasts a wide-ranging product portfolio focused on innovative flavorings and ingredients, including water-soluble mixes for brines that maintain the freshness of seafood and seafood flavor enhancers such as lemon and bisque that boost the flavor of fish-based dishes for foodservice and retail customers, among others.

The company’s new branch in Spain, opened in partnership with processing equipment manufacturer Vaessen Schoemaker, is Fratelli Pagani’s fifth branch after establishing U.S., Croatian, Slovenian, and Romanian subsidiaries. The expansion will help to streamline its export market and distribution channels but also meet the growing consumer demand, especially in the seafood industry, for the freshest possible products, according to Cardazzi.

“This subsidiary … is dedicated to serving the Spanish market more effectively. Through these efforts, we ensure our high-quality ingredients reach our customers in optimal condition and within the expected time frame.” Cardazzi said. “We are optimistic due to the growing demand for high-quality, sustainable ingredients. Our focus on innovation and sustainability allows us to develop products that align with these trends.”

Fratelli Pagani’s new 20,000-square-meter headquarters in Milan features offices, in-person training opportunities for staff, automated data logistics processes, and a production hub for enhanced collaboration.

Cardazzi said this type of constant adaptation is needed throughout the food industry, which is facing “fluctuating supply due to environmental changes, stringent regulatory requirements, and increasing competition from alternative protein sources.”

The ability to adjust is also necessary because Fratelli Pagani creates customized products for customers in over 40 countries around the world, comprising markets that change as frequently, or even more often, than the food industry does as a whole, she said.

“[These are] exciting challenges that showcase the solidity of the company, as well as the determination and dedication that have always characterized it,” Cardazzi said.

Cardazzi said her firm’s innovative Skybridge production, which includes research and development, using consumer preferences to experiment in the company’s flavor lab, quality control through chemical and microbiological analyses, and follow-up consultancy, is a state-of-the art method for generating unique food blends.

“These innovations are part of our commitment to providing high-quality, versatile solutions that cater to the evolving tastes and requirements of the seafood market,” Cardazzi said. “We believe these gourmet preparations will help our clients create exceptional seafood dishes that stand out in the market.”
