St. Simons Island, Georgia, U.S.A.-based SeaPak Shrimp and Seafood is expanding its lineup of frozen retail products, based partly on flavors and species that are resonating with Gen Z consumers.
To that end, the supplier is rolling out Chili Lime Shrimp, Breaded Flounder Tenders, and Breaded Scallops in U.S. retailers such as Food Lion, Weis Markets, SpartanNash, and BJ’s Wholesale Club. The price range for the three new products is USD 8.99 to USD 10.99 (EUR 7.61 to EUR 9.30), but the final pricing varies by retailer, market, and promotional activity.
The new products were inspired by emerging menu trends, consumer preference data, and shoppers’ growing desire for species differentiation and globally inspired flavors, the company said in a release.
For instance, the prevalence of products containing chili lime flavor is projected to grow 22 percent over the next four years, with especially strong resonance among Gen Z consumers, SeaPak said. The new Chili Lime Shrimp features Best Aquaculture Practices-certified shrimp with chili spices, lime, and a coating of real butter. It also has 11 grams of protein per serving.
SeaPak’s launch of Breaded Flounder Tenders, meanwhile, comes at a time when flounder has grown 13 percent on U.S. restaurant menus over the past year. The brand’s Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)-certified flounder, which joins its Beer Battered Flounder Strips, can be cooked in an air fryer or oven in under 10 minutes, and each serving contains 7 grams of protein.
Its new Breaded Scallops also closely align with consumer trends, as they are ranked as the top-performing seafood snack concept in recent consumer research. The MSC-certified Patagonian scallops have a delicately seasoned, crispy coating which offers “a unique, restaurant-quality seafood option rarely available to consumers,” SeaPak said. Each serving contains 8 grams of protein.
“We’re combining bold flavor innovation with premium, responsibly sourced seafood in formats that are easy to prepare and accessible to a wide range of shoppers,” Kelly Rabinowitz, the director of marketing for frozen retail brands at Rich Products Corp., the parent company of SeaPak, said.
