Gould wins Sea Watch International’s Creative Clam Challenge

Edward Gould, foodservice strategic account manager at Acosta Food Marketing in Buffalo, N.Y., USA, won the Creative Clam Challenge, sponsored by Sea Watch International of Easton, Md., at Seafood Expo North America in Boston last week.

Numerous recipes were submitted from Sea Watch’s broker network and the company’s R&D team chose two finalists to compete in the eighth annual competition: Gould (pictured, at right) and Ralph Scurci (pictured, at left) from Michaels and Associates in Grand Rapids, Mich.

“Our two finalists showed that they had great creativity as well as awareness of current culinary trends,” said Guy Simmons, VP-marketing and product development at Sea Watch.

Hundreds of visitors at the expo tasted both recipes and voted for their favorite. Gould’s recipe of bucatini with whole ocean clams and applewood bacon in a roasted poblano and corn cream sauce beat out Scurci’s clam cocktail in ginger pepper broth.

“This year was a great example of simplicity versus complexity. Each competitor took a different road but both arrived at wonderfully balanced recipes,” said Simmons.

Gould received USD 2,000 (EUR 1,829) for his winning recipe and Scurci took home USD 1,000 (EUR 914) as runner up.
