Morrisons on Monday re-launched its Food to Go program, including new fish sandwiches and sushi offerings.

The 475-store supermarket chain in Bradford, England, revamped its on-the-go packaged foods and is offering 90 new products. The offerings now include seven sushi lines, 15 sandwiches made in stores, six new cake bars and other products.

“Sushi offers consumers a quick and easy meal solution that is both tasty and healthy,” said Katherine Wood, a spokesperson for Morrisons. While Morrisons has a wide variety of sushi in some of its stores, the Food to Go range includes a Sushi Snack Pack, a Sushi Fish Selection Pack, and a Sushi Bento Box.

Morrisons’ new sandwiches — ranging from GBP 1 (USD 1.62) to GBP 2.50 (USD 3.23) each — include several fish sandwiches such as Salmon and Cucumber, Salmon and Pea Puree, Prawn Mayonnaise, and Tuna and Cucumber Baguette, according to Wood. “The freshly made lines will utilize Morrisons’ in-store experts who have the ability to make a wide variety of sandwiches using the freshest ingredients, such as king prawns, fresh rocket, and Romaine lettuce,” according to a statement from the retailer.

New shelf signage and packaging — including the use of blue to demonstrate seafood items — will help shoppers find the sandwiches and other take-out items they are looking for. “We know that consumers shopping the Food to Go range are often in a rush, so the colors help guide them to the different types of sandwiches on offer,” Wood said.

In related news, London-based Marks & Spencer last week launched a line of ready-to-eat meals and appetizers under the new “Modern Asian” banner. The line includes Prawn & Coriander Spring Rolls, Prawn and Mange Tout Gyoza (dumplings), as well as dim sum, noodle bowls, and bento boxes.
