Price Chopper looks to SFP, Trace Register

Price Chopper Supermarkets on Thursday announced developments in its sustainable seafood platform.

Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) and Trace Register will guide Price Chopper in further developing its plans to ensure that its seafood is harvested from sustainably managed fisheries.

SFP is working with the Schenectady, N.Y.-based supermarket chain to evaluate its seafood products and determine the best sources of wild and farmed seafood, while Trace Register will provide the company with a software system that meets the traceability requirements of seafood producers, processors, distributors and retailers.

“Developing new partnerships and policies continues to help us improve our sustainable seafood platform for the betterment of our customers and our oceans,” said Lee French, VP of seafood merchandising for Price Chopper. “Actions speak louder than words, and our programs and alliances reflect our deep commitment to offer our customers the best in fresh, high quality, sustainable seafood products.”

Price Chopper operates 71 stores in New York, 15 in Massachusetts, 13 in Vermont, eight in Pennsylvania, seven in Connecticut and two in New Hampshire.
