Miramar, Florida, U.S.A.-based tilapia-farming firm Regal Springs has rolled out new value-added products at retailers across the U.S. Midwest.

The firm recently launched its new frozen Golden Delights Tilapia Tenders range in Mariano’s Fresh Market stores in Illinois; Kowalski’s Markets stores in Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Metro Market and Pick ’n Save stores in Wisconsin.

The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC)-certified range will be on the shelves of more local and national retailers as 2025 progresses, ASC said in a press release.

“By carrying ASC’s sea green label, Regal Springs’ Golden Delights are making responsible seafood more transparent and accessible to Midwestern shoppers,” ASC said. “Golden Delights are convenient, oven- or air fryer-ready tilapia tenders that can go from freezer to plate in under 20 minutes.”

Besides the new frozen tender range, Regal Springs also plans to launch frozen, ready-to-cook tilapia Fajitas, Filletitos, and Loins at retailers this fall.

According to Regal Springs Head of Marketing and Business Development Vernon Bradley, these products appeal to families seeking healthy, convenient, affordable dinner options, he explained.

Bradley called the fajita fish strips a “simple innovation” that has been lacking in the frozen protein market.

“Nobody does fish fajitas,” he told SeafoodSource earlier this year. “You get chicken fajitas, beef fajitas, pork fajitas. So, we’ve launched fish fajitas.”

The supplier also expanded from business-to-business (B2B) sales into business-to-consumer (B2C) sales earlier this year – a move that was inspired by the company’s desire to introduce consumers to the brand on its own terms, according to Bradley.

While Regal Springs provides two-thirds of the tilapia that is sold under the Kirkland brand at Costco stores in the U.S. and is a supplier to a number of other major retailers, consumers don’t recognize the company because it previously only supplied private-label products, according to Bradley.

“When we go to retailers and wholesalers, everybody knows Regal Springs,” he said. “But, when you are a B2B supplier, you have less control of your outcomes.”

Regal Springs, which farms tilapia in freshwater lakes across Indonesia, Honduras, and Mexico, was the first aquaculture firm to achieve certification by ASC, with two of its Indonesian farms receiving the credential in 2012.

“We believe in doing seafood differently – raising fish with integrity, investing in the communities we operate in, and delivering trusted products to retailers and shoppers,” Regal Springs North America Managing Director Todd Raasch said.
