Sandwich personality test: tuna or seafood salad?

According to a new study, seafood salad sandwich lovers and those who prefer tuna salad sandwiches just aren’t meant for each other.

As part of their “Build the Perfect Sandwich” program, Hellmann’s and Best Food Mayonnaise commissioned a study that shows an empty stomach isn’t the only factor when it comes to food selection.

Nearly 3,000 people were surveyed about sandwich choices after undergoing psychiatric and personality tests to identify their character traits and behaviors. Then, test results and survey responses were compared, revealing a strong correlation between sandwich choices and personality traits.

The study even claims sandwich choices can uncover insights into romantic compatibilities, and apparently, opposites attract.

One might think the only two seafood options on the sandwich list would have a lot in common, but the study recommends tuna salad sandwich eaters pair with egg salad lovers and one who would choose a lobster or crab roll over bologna should list “must love BLTs” in their online dating profiles.

For example, tuna salad sandwich eaters are generally aggressive and achievement-oriented. They are natural leaders and driven to succeed in both work and personal relationships. The best words to describe those who prefer the tuna salad sandwich: competitive and successful.

On the other hand, seafood salad sandwich fans are described as agreeable and unselfish. They seek comfort in close, secure relationships. The best words to describe those who prefer a seafood sandwich: commitment and loyalty.

Other sandwiches in the study include the club, ham and cheese, turkey, egg salad, chicken salad and BLT.

The “Build the Perfect Sandwich” program works with celebrity chef Bobby Flay suggesting sandwiches for any occasion, mood or personality. Sandwich-focused recipes, tutorials and a “sandwich recommender” are featured on the Web site, www.buildtheperfectsandwich.com.
