To appeal to shoppers looking for healthier and flexitarian meals, The Saucy Fish Co. is launching its first “meat-free” range at Seafood Expo North America in Boston, Massachusetts, 17 to 19 March.
The three product innovations: Rostis, Melts and Croquettes, provide a “perfect entry point to bring incremental young shoppers into the frozen category and address the growing trend of consumers looking for meat-free alternatives,” Saucy said in a press release.
Saucy will roll out the line in select United Kingdom supermarkets this spring.
The new range is Saucy’s most innovative to date, said Amanda Webb, sales and marketing director for Saucy Fish.
“We studied the impact of rising trends like flexitarian diets and new habits such as meat-free Mondays on consumers’ dining choices, which directly inspired our new Rosti products,” Webb said. “We’ve also aimed to minimize cooking times, in response to the reduction in time people spend on cooking ‘dinner for tonight’.”
The Rostis, available in three flavors, combined shredded vegetables such as spring onion, red pepper and chive with tasty flakes of fish in a griddled style patty with a serving of sauce. They are sold in a pack of two, with a suggested retail price of BP 2.50 (USD 3.32, EUR 2.93), “making them an affordable meal option for those looking for a convenient and exciting dish,” Saucy said.
The Melts feature basa fish enrobed in a crumb, with an oozy saucy center, and are sold in two flavors.
“They are ideal for people wanting to reduce their meat consumption by swapping a chicken kiev-style product with a lighter fish option,” Saucy said.
Inspired by the latest trends in informal Spanish dining, the Croquettes feature cod and potato, encased in a crispy coating, with a saucy center.
“These are perfect for those that love to share at mealtimes or a convenient dinner savior for a quick on-demand meal,” Saucy said.
