U.S. frozen seafood brands Gorton’s and SeaPak are rolling out new shrimp products, targetting Americans seeking affordable, convenient, restaurant-style meals they can enjoy at home.
St. Simons Island, Georgia, U.S.A.-based SeaPak, a division of Rich Foods, is launching Classic Cajun Style Shrimp, which is seasoned with a New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A.-style spice blend that includes salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and garlic.
A coating of butter melts with the seasonings as the shrimp cooks, “creating an irresistible sauce that’s perfect over rice, grits, or with a piece of French bread for dipping,” the company said in a press release.
“In recent years, we’ve seen a growing demand for bolder, spicier flavors,” SeaPak Marketing Manager Samatha Stogner told SeafoodSource about the offering, adding that Cajun-style flavors in particular have gained popularity.
Influencers and foodies across social media showcase “everything from gumbo and jambalaya to spicy seafood boils, reinforcing the excitement around this regional cuisine,” Stogner said.
“The Classic Cajun Style Shrimp has a more adventurous flavor that we think will excite anyone looking for a new addition to their weekly dining routine,” she said.
SeaPak has traditionally offered products that have a “classic coastal taste with a golden crispy coating,” Stogner said, so the new product represents a shift for the company.
The single-serve, 10-ounce packs, which retail for a suggested USD 7.99 (EUR 7.70) each, are initially rolling out in Meijer, Food Lion, Hannaford, Schnucks, and Giant Eagle stores.
Meanwhile, Gloucester, Massachusetts, U.S.A.-based Gorton’s has debuted two new shrimp products: Coconut Shrimp and Double Crunch Shrimp, both of which are made without antibiotics, artificial colors or flavors, and hydrogenated oils.
“We see a growing demand for easy ways to enjoy restaurant-quality shrimp at home,” Gorton’s Vice President of Marketing Jake Holbrook told SeafoodSource. “Our new Coconut Shrimp features a crispy coating with real coconut flakes on tender, tail-on shrimp, offering a delicious appetizer or meal at a fraction of the cost of dining out.”
Gorton’s already carries Butterfly Shrimp and Popcorn Shrimp, but the supplier also decided to add Double Crunch Shrimp because “we know there’s a group of consumers who love our crispy texture and simply can’t get enough crunch,” Holbrook said.
“So, we developed this product with two types of breadcrumbs to deliver a satisfying crunch with every bite,” he said.
Both products will retail for a suggested USD 7.99 per 9-ounce package.
