US restaurants launch limited-time Lent shrimp promotions from coast to coast

Several U.S. restaurants are rolling out shrimp promotions for the Lenten season, which started 5 March and ends 17 April.

Louisville, Kentucky, U.S.A.-based Long John Silver’s is debuting a new Coconut Butterfly Shrimp and is offering several other shrimp specials for Lent. 

Customers can order one of several Shrimp Baskets for USD 6.00 (EUR 5.70), including Six-Piece Coconut Butterfly Shrimp, Six-Piece Grilled Shrimp, Six-Piece Batter-Dipped Shrimp, and Crispy Breaded Popcorn Shrimp. 

Long John Silver’s is also offering Shrimp Sea-Shares for USD 10.00 (EUR 9.50) each. The special includes a choice of 15 coconut butterfly shrimp, 15 grilled shrimp, 15 batter-dipped shrimp, or a shareable serving of Crispy Breaded Popcorn Shrimp.

"We’re committed to bringing guests bold flavors and unbeatable value during Lent," Long John Silver’s Vice President of Marketing & Innovation Christopher Caudill said. "Our new coconut butterfly shrimp and signature seafood deals ensure everyone – whether observing Lent or simply craving seafood – can dive into delicious without breaking their treasure chest.”

Elsewhere, New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A.-based shrimp supplier Prime Shrimp is teaming up with Mahana Fresh, a fast-casual restaurant specializing in healthy, customizable dishes with locations in seven U.S. states, on a limited-time promotion.

Through 30 April, the restaurant chain’s customers can order Shrimply Paradise, featuring bowls customizable with four Prime Shrimp flavors — Louisiana Boil, Honey Mesquite, Signature, and Lemon & Cracked Pepper — at the restaurant chain’s eateries.

“Mahana Fresh’s commitment to offering high-quality food with speed and ease makes them the perfect foodservice partner for us, and we’re thrilled that together we can bring premium shrimp and bold flavors to new customers across the U.S.,” Prime Shrimp Business Development Supervisor Davis McCool said.

Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A.-based White Castle is bringing back its Shrimp Nibblers through 20 April. 

The bite-sized, breaded butterfly shrimp are available in small, medium, and sack sizes. Additionally, the restaurant chain added Fish Nibblers, made from Alaska pollock, for a limited time. White Castle features Panko Fish Sliders, also made with Alaska pollock, in its restaurants throughout the year.

Qdoba, based in San Diego, California, U.S.A., is bringing back its popular Citrus Lime Shrimp for the Lenten season. Customers can build their own entrées with Citrus Lime Shrimp or Surf & Turf, which includes shrimp and flame-grilled steak.

Del Taco, based in Lake Forest, California, U.S.A., is bringing back jumbo shrimp, available in its Jumbo Shrimp Tacos and Jumbo Shrimp Burrito through 23 April. It is also highlighting a Beer-Battered Fish Taco, made with an Alaska pollock fillet and a batter made from a salt and lime lager.

Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A-based fried chicken chain Zaxby’s is bringing back Southern Fried Shrimp for a limited time. 

Customers can order the shrimp as part of a new ZaxSeas Surf & Turf Meal, which includes eight Southern Fried Shrimp with Zaxtail Sauce, three Chicken Fingerz with Zax Sauce, Texas Toast, Crinkle Fries, and a small drink.

Another chicken restaurant chain, Church’s Texas Chicken, is featuring 8-Piece Shrimp and Sauce and a Surf ‘n’ Turf option featuring its Classic Shrimp paired with Chicken Tenders.

San Antonio, Texas, U.S.A.-based Taco Cabana is touting new Shrimp Tacos with battered shrimp, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle ranch for a limited time. 

"Lent is here, and we know many of our guests are looking for delicious meat-free options. That's why we are excited to introduce our new Shrimp Taco – a crispy, golden, flavor-packed way to keep your Fridays (and every day) delicious," Taco Cabana President Ulyses Camacho said in a press release.

Ono Hawaiian BBQ is adding a new menu item, Lava Shrimp, and bringing back its USD 8.00 (EUR 7.60) Seafood Aloha Plates for the Lenten season. 

Lava Shrimp is grilled shrimp and diced onions sautéed in a “bold, spicy sauce infused with a flavorful blend of spices,” the company said. It is available as a Plate Lunch, Aloha Plate, Mini Meal, or Family Meal.
