St. Simon’s Island, Georgia, U.S.A.-based SeaPak Shrimp & Seafood Co. has conducted a number of new product launches into the frozen aisle for the better part of two years.
At the beginning of this year, the company released a trio of frozen seafood products ahead of the Lenten season, including a Coconut Cod entree, along with Lobster & Shrimp Bites and Orange Shrimp appetizers.
With its Lobster & Shrimp Bites, SeaPak combined “two of the most popular seafood flavors” into bite-sized noshes.
“Featuring oven-crunchy, wild-caught lobster and shrimp with cheese and shallots, these incredible flavors are together for the first time in the freezer aisle,” the company told SeafoodSource in January 2021.
Its Orange Shrimp product, meanwhile, leverages the popularity of Asian cuisine and flavors, and is SeaPak’s “take on take-out.”
“And by take-out, we mean you take it out of the freezer for a delicious dinner in 15 minutes or less,” the company said. "The oven-crispy popcorn shrimp in a sweet orange sauce pairs perfectly with stir-fried veggies, Asian seasonings, and white rice or noodles.”
Hand-breaded with a lightly-seasoned coconut flake coating, SeaPak’s wild-caught Coconut Cod offering – which comes in 7.5-ounce packages and retails for a suggested USD 8.99 (EUR 7.42) each – gives consumers a “quick and easy” meal, according to SeaPak Director of Marketing Kristen Beadon.
“We are so excited to launch this quick and easy, delicious Coconut Cod. It’s sure to be a new family favorite just like our already popular Coconut Shrimp,” Beadon said at launch.
2020 also saw the company expanding its portfolio with items such as SeaPak Everything Bagel Butterfly Shrimp, and SeaPak Shrimp Sea Pals – whole grain-breaded, minced shrimp bites in the shape of sea turtles and starfish geared towards children.
“Knowing there was a real need for a kid-centric product in the frozen seafood aisle, we created SeaPak Shrimp Sea Pals,” Beadon said of the latter product in March 2020. “Now, parents have a freezer-friendly option that offers all the health benefits of seafood children often miss out on, complete with a kid-friendly taste and a great fun factor.”
The Everything Bagel Butterfly Shrimp offering, which launched in September 2020, features 9 ounces of 4-star Best Aquaculture Practices-certified butterfly shrimp in a seasoning mix of sesame seeds, salt, poppy seeds, dried garlic, and dried onion, along with a cream cheese chive dipping sauce.
“Everything Bagel flavor/spice is trending heavily and is predicted to continue to grow year-over-year,” she said. “As consumers continue to stay at home, SeaPak is trying to provide new and exciting flavors that consumers may see at their favorite seafood restaurants.”
