Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.-based seafood company Trident recently debuted Wild Alaska Pollock Skinless Loin Portions, along with a new branded surimi item, at Walmart stores.
"We wanted to offer consumers a healthy seafood option that is wild-caught in the United States, packed with protein, and quick and easy to prepare,” Trident Retail Sales Director Colton Hayden said about the pollock loins. “We were able to collaborate with Walmart and make that come to life."
The Skinless Loin Portions are phosphate-free and made from just one ingredient: whole fillets of Alaska pollock. They include 26 grams of protein per serving.
“Versatile and easy to prepare, the whitefish loins pair well with a cracker crumb topping for an upscale-inspired dinner or when mixed with your favorite vegetables in a protein-fueled bowl,” Trident said, adding that the loins can be pan-fried, air-fried, or baked in a conventional oven in under 25 minutes.
Meanwhile, the new surimi item being released under the Louis Kemp Sea Legs brand, which has been available in the U.S. market primarily as a repacked item, is now at Walmart stores as a new branded item with updated package design. The surimi, made from Alaska pollock and sold exclusively at Walmart’s U.S. stores with plans to expand to other retailers, is sold in a 1.5-pound gusseted pouch.
"It is great to see the expansion of this category with the addition of select Walmart stores around the U.S. and for consumers to enjoy surimi in new ways,” Trident Director of Category Management for Surimi James Riley said.
Louis Kemp Sea Legs can be used as an appetizer, in salads and sushi, or on a charcuterie board, according to the firm.
“Fully cooked and ready to eat, they also make for a convenient high-protein snack for those who are on the go,” Trident said.
Created in Trident Seafood Japan’s Onagawa facility, the surimi includes 8 grams of protein per serving and 90 milligrams of omega-3 fatty acids.
While retail is the focus of the two newest product rollouts, Trident is also planning to launch Crispy-Battered Sauceable Wild Alaska Pollock Nuggets into foodservice. The product won the People’s Choice award at the Alaska Symphony of Seafood competition in October.
