Weathervane restaurant chain to close four locations

Northeast U.S. seafood restaurant chain Weathervane Seafood Restaurant will close four locations in Maine and New Hampshire as a results of “economic conditions.”

The company’s flagship restaurant in Kittery, Maine, which opened in 1969, will remain open, but locations in South Portland, Waterville, Brewer and Bedford, N.H., were recently closed. The company operated 14 restaurants until the time of the announcement.

Restaurant employees were notified on Sunday about the closings, according to a report in the Kennebec Journal.

“The final ending is certainly a shock,” Waterville General Manager Sean Callahan told the newspaper. “Was the writing on the wall? Certainly.” The Waterville restaurant opened in 1986.
