Bíldudalur, Iceland-based salmon-farming company Arnarlax has signed a share-purchase agreement for the remaining 50 percent in Eldisstöðin Ísþór, smolt facility, located in Þorlákshöfn.

The transaction is subject to approval from Icelandic Competition Authorities (ICA). If approved by ICA, Arnarlax will be the sole owner of Eldisstöðin Ísþór.

“With this, Arnarlax takes another important step in the strategy of increased smolt weight, allowing increased  [maximum-allowed biomass] license utilization, while reducing production time in sea and thereby biological risk,” the company said in a press release.

The Icelandic Salmon subsidiary said it will provide a more-detailed update in its second-quarter 2022 presentation in August.

The deal caps a busy month for Arnarlax. Less than two weeks ago, the company signed a declaration of intent with officials from the Vesturbyggð municipality to build a 10,000-square meter high-tech processing facility, with an estimated capacity of 80,000 metric tons (MT) in Patreksfjörður, in the Westfjords.

Arnarlax currently holds licenses amounting to 25,200 MT MAB. The company also has an ongoing application for a 10,000 MT farming license in Ísafjarðardjú, which the company said in its Q1 2022 results is expected to be issued this year. Another application for 4,500 MT of biomass in Arnarfjörður, however, has been delayed.
