Grobest’s Ko Chi-Kang takes over as chairman of the board

Taoyuan City, Taiwan-based aquafeed and aquaculture equipment firm Grobest Group has appointed Ko Chi-Kang as to serve as chairman of its board of directors, effective 1 July.

Ko, Grobest’s co-founder and chief scientific officer, succeeds Chen Chun-ping, who retired after serving as chairman for the past nine years.

Ko Chi-Kang co-founded and served of as the CEO of animal feed product developer Ye Cherng Industrial, which was Grobest’s previous name. He played a leading role in the deal that gave London, United Kingdom-headquartered global investment firm Permira has taken a 50 percent stake in the company, which has operations in Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, and Malaysia.

In its announcement at the time, Permira described Grobest as a leader in the Asian market in producing “an array of innovative and differentiated functional feed products, focused on preventing and combating diseases as well as increasing yields.” The company also provides a range of services and technical assistance to aquaculture farmers throughout Asia, including pond maintenance, water treatment, and soil and disease testing.

“I am deeply honored to have been appointed as the chairman of the Grobest Group board of directors,” Ko said. “I look forward to working with Grobest and the executive team to spearhead the group’s strategy and ensure that it continues to create significant values for all stakeholders."

Earlier this month, Grobest announced it had entered into an exclusive partnership with Singapore-based shrimp farmer Universal Aquaculture (UniAqua) to deliver a proprietary feed specially designed for the firms recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) vannamei farms.
