Maritech, a Norwegian traceability and business software developer, has acquired Reykjavík, Iceland-based Sea Data Center, which it described as the “Bloomberg” of seafood.
In 2019, Maritech purchased a majority share of Sea Data Center, which offers global market data and analysis for fisheries and aquaculture. Now, Maritech has taken 100 percent control of Sea Data Center, and has plans to formally integrate it into Maritech Iceland following the close of the transaction.
“Together we are bringing together a unique set of market intelligence and benchmarking tools,” Maritech Vice President of Data Science Oddvar Husby said. “This allows our customers to overlay the latest seafood market supply and pricing trends against their own data – highly valuable insights for the seafood industry worldwide. The services support seafood professionals in their decision-making processes and improves their company operations, providing the big-picture view on market developments and supply and price trends. I would especially like to highlight the unique data we now gain full ownership to, regarding wild-catch [fisheries] in the Atlantic Ocean. Now we are working on how we can use this data even better to strengthen our customers."
Maritech, which itself is owned by Broodstock Capital Partners, is a provider of software, integrations, and analytics for the seafood value-chain. Since 2019, it has embarked on an acquisition campaign designed to increase its product offerings. In 2019, Maritech acquired Timpex, a provider of logistics software for the Norwegian transport industry. In 2020, Maritech acquired IoT company Lillebakk AS and the third-party logistics solution provider EDI-Systems. The company now has has 115 employees in North America, Norway, Iceland, and Chile.
